چکیده
Model biopolymers are powerful tools to guide the interpretation of physical properties in complex systems. (Pro-Pro-Gly)10, (PPG)10, is a collagen-model peptide, whose structure is known at high resolution. Herein, Raman microscopy data of (PPG)10 powders and single crystals are reported. The spectra interpretation leads to an accurate assignment of three well-resolved amide bands corresponding to the three peptide bonds (PP, PG and GP) present in the (PPG)10 structure. These data together with the availability of torsional angles phi and psi derived from the high-resolution crystal structure, provide the opportunity to test the validity of theoretical equations for the calculation of non-canonical amide III bands and represent a reference for theoretical calculations of vibrational spectra and for polyproline II detection in complex proteins. Spectroscopic data do not support the indication of two distinct and equally populated up and down conformations of the pyrrolidine rings observed in the (PPG)10 crystal structure.

The reactions of [Ru(NO)Cl5](2-) with glycine (Gly), L-alanine (L-Ala), L-valine (L-Val), L-proline (L-Pro), D-proline (D-Pro), L-serine (L-Ser), L-threonine (L-Thr), and L-tyrosine (L-Tyr) in n-butanol or n-propanol afforded eight new complexes (1-8) of the general formula [RuCl3(AA-H)(NO)](-), where AA = Gly, L-Ala, L-Val, L-Pro, D-Pro, L-Ser, L-Thr, and L-Tyr, respectively. The compounds wer...
متن کاملConformational properties of the Pro-Gly motif in the D-Ala-l-Pro-Gly-D-Ala model peptide explored by a statistical analysis of the NMR, Raman, and Raman optical activity spectra.
The Pro-Gly sequence in designed peptides and proteins is often used to mimic natural beta-hairpin turns. Shorter peptides containing this moiety, however, adopt multiple conformations, and their propensity to form the turn is not obvious. In this study, conformational flexibility of Pro-Gly was investigated with the aid of NMR, Raman scattering, and Raman optical activity (ROA). The spectra of...
متن کاملPolymers of Tripeptides as Collagen Models
The structures of four polyhexapeptide collagen models have been investigated by X-ray diffraction. It has been found that (Gly-Ala-Pro-Gly-Pro-Pro),, (Gly-Pro-Ala-Gly-Pro-Pro),, (Gly-Ala-Pro-Gly-Pro-Ala), and (Gly-Ala-Ala-GlyPro-Pro),, all show typical collagen-like diffraction patterns, although there is some variation among the polymers in modes of lateral packing and in axial repeat distanc...
متن کاملPart I: surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy investigation of amino acids and their homodipeptides adsorbed on colloidal silver.
Surface-enhanced Raman scattering spectra (SERS) were measured for various amino acids: L-methionine (Met), L-cysteine (Cys), Lglycine (Gly), L-leucine (Leu), L-phenylalanine (Phe), and L-proline (Pro) and their homodipeptides (Met-Met, Cys-Cys, Gly-Gly, LeuLeu, Phe-Phe, and Pro-Pro) in silver colloidal solutions. The geometry and orientation of the amino acids or dipeptides on the silver surfa...
متن کاملSearching low-energy conformations of two elastin sequences
The three-dimensional structures of two common repeat motifs Val-Pro-Gly-Val-Gly and ValGly-Val-Pro-Gly-Val-Gly-Val-Pro of tropoelastin are investigated by using the multicanonical simulation procedure. By minimizing the energy structures along the trajectory the thermodynamically most stable low-energy microstates of the molecule are determined. The structural predictions are in good agreement...
